Hello one and all, welcome back to the best nature program of all! Bundle up and get cozy to read about a very blustery day in the lives of your Knee High Naturalists.
With big winds blowing snow to and fro, we all arrived bundled up and ready to go! Forts were the focus today, we all grabbed big sticks and began to play. It was long before something very cool took shape, our naturalists so skilled they should wear capes! With the very cold and snow weather, we decided to move to the pavilion where the warmth felt better. We sang our Good Morning song loud for all to hear, friends smiling from ear to ear. We talked about the arrival of Spring and what we can expect it to bring. Robins eating worms, spiders spinning webs and blooming buds are sure to confirm!
We washed our hands enjoyed our treats before stepping out of the heat. We had friends all over the map today, some wanted to color in the pavilion and some wanted to play. We were so happy to dig and use our snow paint, we even made a colorful little pond that looked so quaint! Unfortunately, we found a frozen caterpillar called a Cutworm, but we had so much fun exploring and learning with him that we didn’t squirm. Our friend, the Cutworm, went on some grand adventures like digging holes, “eating” bread and getting carried around everywhere!
Eventually we all decided that it was time for a hike, we bundled up with all the winter clothing that was provided. As always, we stopped to use our trusty boot brush before heading to the forest in a big rush! We stopped at the sign to learn about owls and how they can turn their heads when they’re on the prowl. We made our way to our secret spot to build the perfect fort that we’ll use a lot! Some friends quickly transformed into little tree frogs, climbing up, down and all around the trees and logs. Others put on their hard and began to build, using sticks of all sorts and sizes with our might fort building skills. Suddenly, we forgot all about our cold fingers and toes, we had so much fun building we were hardly ready to go! The time came far too soon, we packed up our tools and tidied up our fort because it was getting close to noon.
We packed up our bags and readjusted our winter gear, it was time to go and our families were near! We had a wonderful last day of class before Spring Break and are so excited for the next time we come back, hopefully without extra hats and mittens to take.
Thank you all a wonderful, wintry day in the lives of your Knee High Naturalists! We hope you enjoy your time off next week and look forward to seeing you all again soon!
