Fall Knee High Naturalists - Week 1 (Monday)

What a great first day of fall Knee High Naturalists! Despite the rainy weather, we had a perfect fall day searching for mushrooms. After snack and story time, we made our way to the pavilion to make our very own name tag necklaces out of tree cookies (not the kind we want to eat). Ms. Paige put out pictures of a frog, a blue jay, and a butterfly and then read statements about each one. If the statement applied to the animal assigned to us, we would add a bead to our necklaces. We ended up with a colorful craft that can stay safe at home if desired. Name tags are not required during class. Next, we set off on our first great adventure together! We found “hundreds” of mushrooms of at least 7 different species. Some were white, some were brown, some were round, some were flat, some were big, and some were teeny tiny. We even followed the trail rules so well that we hiked farther than any KHN class has ever gone before!
