Our third week was all about terrific trees and wild water exploration at Jack’s Creek!
Ms. Aspen read us “As An Oak Tree Grows” by G. Brian Karas to start our morning and learn about trees and all that they can be. We had friends who knew that trees grow from teeny tiny seeds before they become giant trees that can be used for many things! Before we started our day outside, Ms. Rachel brought out a giant wood cookie from an oak tree so we could find our very own growth rings.
We enjoyed snack and sang our good morning song before taking a mini field trip to Ms. Miranda and Ms. Aspen’s super cool storage shed! Some of us got to pick out new water shoes and boots for our big adventure. The rest of us had fun gathering pine needle and leaf confetti to celebrate the day with!
We used our observation skills to find cool items on the trail around us and the river beside us—we even saw wild grapes and Linden leaves as big as our faces! At the creek we learned how to stay safe and mostly dry when playing in waterways. With the rules out of the way, we began to play!
Friendly mud faces smiled at us from the trees as we jumped, splashed and stomped in the creek, leaf boats were raced down the small channels and a frog was even caught! Ms. Miranda taught us how to make rubbings from bark, leaves and sticks while we colored on the picnic blanket. Fine and gross motor skills were getting exercise as we climbed on logs, up and down the river bank, digging for special rocks and collecting cool items to use for art!
We ended the day a little wet and soggy, but very happy from a day of awesome adventures and wonderful water play!
Thank you for another fantastic day of being Knee High Naturalists, we’re excited to learn about all things autumn and falling leaves next week!
