Fall Knee High Naturalists - Week 5 (Monday)

We had a pleasant surprise this morning as Ms. Rachel got to teach us today! We read a story titled The Apple Orchard Riddle, written by Margaret McNamara. This story took us on a journey to an apple orchard. We were challenged to solve this riddle: There is a little red house, with no doors and no windows, and a star inside. What is it?

We worked together and made guesses on what the answer to the riddle could be. Some of us thought it was a barn, some thought it might be an apple- but where is the star? Ms. Rachel cut an apple for us, straight down the middle, and to our surprise there WAS a star inside! We talked about how stars have five points and how apples have five seeds inside, making a star.

We then went on a hike on our Fox Den trail and made a stop at the Rock Beach along the Boardman River. While there, we collected rocks of every color and made rainbows!

We finished our day with another story about hibernation that helped us talk about what bears eat and what teeth they use to eat those things. Ms. Rachel was very impressed that some of us even knew that bear are omnivores!

We look forward to spending time with your naturalists next week at Knee High!
