Today was all about frogs! Ms. Paige showed us a bullfrog specimen in the Nature Center so we could get a closer look. We noticed circles behind their ears–these are their tympanums, which allow them to detect sounds. We also got to see the different life cycle stages of frogs–from egg to tadpole to adult. We talked about how the frog babies have to go through a big change (metamorphosis!) to become adults. We also listened to a story about things that are hurting frogs in nature–habitat loss, pesticides, etc. Then, we set off on a hike to find a frog or two on the Natural Education Reserve. We made sure to play on the rocks and explore the trees along the way. At the frog boardwalk, we found two frogs and one turtle and decided they probably will not be out much longer because the weather is turning cold. What a lucky day!
