Position Title: Environmental Education Volunteer

Purpose: The Environmental Education Volunteer is a vital part of the Grand Traverse Conservation District's education programs. This position supports the organization’s mission of inspiring exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world. This position serves all ages.

The Environmental Education Volunteer represents the organization to the public, program attendees, school groups, scout groups, and more who visit the Boardman River Nature Center and the Grand Traverse Conservation District's managed parklands.

Location: The Boardman River Nature Center, located at 1450 Cass Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685, or on one of the Grand Traverse Conservation District's managed parklands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a positive, welcoming, and cooperative relationship with program attendees, Conservation District partners and community visitors.

  • Assist with or help lead environmental education programs, welcome visitors, and provide information and directions 

  • Assist with education staff needs, such as field trips, weekly programs, special events

  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsible To: Rachel Straughen, Education Director

Time Commitment: One - Four hours as needed/as programs are scheduled

Qualifications: Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, and dependability.

We will also place you on our general email list so you will receive info on other volunteer opportunities throughout the year!

Training for this specific position will be provided. In addition, staff will be readily available for questions and assistance.
