Being outdoors has always been a strong passion for Sam. Growing up in Maryland and spending time in Michigan, Utah, and New Hampshire, he has often sought out exploring new environments. While earning his B.A. in Environmental Studies and Geosciences from Denison University, his love for the outdoors led to a greater understanding of the importance of conservation work. Following graduation, Sam has prioritized working with farmers and landowners on natural resource management. This includes 2.5 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia and 3.5 years with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service in the Upper Peninsula. Throughout his career, he has worked with producers on organic and regenerative agriculture, animal husbandry, soil health, and wildlife habitat. From his work and discussions with farmers, Sam has seen the impacts of growing organically and believes that this can not only improve soil health but can provide new economic opportunities as well. While this practice may not be suitable for everyone, even the smallest changes can have a notable impact on our natural resources. 

In his free time, Sam can be found biking, hiking, camping, cooking, or on Lake Michigan. He is excited to be leading such an innovative program and working with organic farmers throughout Michigan.
