Hello to one and all, welcome back to the best nature program of all! We spent our last day together learning about the life cycles of plants and trees, splashing in big puddles with ease. Grab your rain suit, pull on your boots and jump in to learn more about a day in the life of your Knee High Naturalist!
For the first time this year, we started our day inside—the rain was so heavy that we had to hide! Rain coming down so hard and so quick that we decided to cozy up with a nice book, no sticks. Ms. Miranda read us a book about a porcupine trying to grow sunflowers, a fitting book for the rain showers! Once everyone was here we put our boots back on, ready to head out side, all worries about the rain foregone. We shrieked and laughed at we stomped in puddles, SPLISH, SPLASH! Under cover at the pavilion at last, we discovered banners up to celebrate our day together in class. We huddled in close on our picnic blanket to learn more about the life cycle of trees, it’s somewhat similar to you and me! Plants start out as little seeds and grow into seedlings, then saplings before turning into adults—they take a long time to grow and have different life stages as their leaves and seeds begin to show.
We ate our snack so fast, we wanted to play outside before the rain passed! We climbed over rocks and made it to the top, splashed in big puddles and gathering round in big huddles. We worked together to scoop water into cones, digging out new trenches and pools—it was all so cool! When we needed to take a break from the weather, we decorated our plantable flower pots to make them look better. One by one, we planted our own little seeds, soon these sunflowers will be bigger than one and me! We planted Russian Mammoth sunflowers that should grow to be seven to twelve feet tall, we can’t believe how such big flowers come from something so small! As we planted and played, we listened to music, too, it wasn’t long before a dance party ensued! Eventually, we were just too cold and too wet—the hand dryers weren’t drying our mittens enough yet! We decided to celebrate our time together with a tour through the nature center with inclement weather. When we came back out, we were very surprised to see our families there with smiling faces and twinkling eyes. Ms. Miranda played a fitting tune and we all walked out receive our certificates and we were over the moon! We said our goodbyes and look forward to seeing each other again, hopefully with blue skies!
We want to say thank you all for a wonderful ten weeks together and for your enthusiasm and support for all Knee High Naturalists yesterday! Ms. Miranda and I watched your children’s vocabulary grow, their curiosity never cease and their relationships develop. Their interpersonal skills grew and changed a little more with every class, new friends being made and many new games being played. With every critter and creature we found, their eyes lit up as they looked around. Life through the eyes of your Knee High Naturalists is a magical, wild and wonderful thing, we’re so grateful we got to know you and your children a little more each week! While we won’t see each other every week, we look forward to seeing you on the trails or in the nature center soon! Thank you everyone, we look forward to seeing some of you in the fall and wish you all well!
