Fall Knee High Naturalists - Week 8 (Monday)

We were so excited to see snow this week! What a fun surprise for our last Monday together this fall. We started our morning with questions like “Where does snow come from?” and “Is it good for plants and animals?” We listened to the book, Snow is Falling by Franklyn M. Branley, which helped answer those questions. We knew that snow falls from the sky, but we learned that it forms when water in the sky freezes. This is why we might get wet when the snow melts. From the story, we also learned that snow helps keep plants and animals warm during the winter, even though it is cold! We walked around the Nature Center to find which animals might like the snow. We decided the snowy owl probably likes the snow best!

Outside, we made snow angels and threw snowballs back and forth before heading to the Nature Playscape to find more snow to play with. Some of us played on the spider web while others worked in the mud kitchen bakery. Together, we made cakes, pies, and delicious mud cupcakes with snow frosting. Ms. Paige told us that we are welcome to come back when there is more snow on the tunnel to go sledding! There are sleds in the box by the shed for us to borrow any time we come back to play.
