Fall Homeschool - Week 8

We enjoyed one final adventure together this fall…or should I say winter? Everyone was so excited to play in the snow today! We began the afternoon with snowball fights and snowmen building. We formed groups and challenged each other to roll the biggest snowball. If it had not been snowing the entire time, we probably would have run out of snow. Then, we trekked around Fox Den Trail, where we continued rolling giant snowballs. We threw snow into Jack’s Creek to see how long it would take to melt in the chilly water.

Then, we stopped at the beloved Bear Dens to check on our forts. We were surprised to see that all the water from the heavy rains this fall had dried up. We had been hoping that it was frozen to do some ice skating! We thought the snow covering all the brush around the Bear Dens was awesome! Without the leaves on the bushes, we were able to crawl through and make tunnels from one side to the other.

With the promise of another snowball fight, we hiked back to the pavilion to warm up and prepare, carrying with us the large snowballs we rolled on the trail. That’s right, we carried them up the hill and up a flight of stairs. Our determination did not waver. Ms. Paige asked us to draw the ultimate snow fort in our nature journals, which we took very seriously. There are some future engineers and architects in this group! Then, preparation for the battle commenced. We split into groups and set off to build forts in the field. The giant snowballs from earlier came in quite handy and we utilized plastic containers to make building blocks to build up the front of our fortresses. The whole process was quite intricate and intense. Then, we had two minutes to throw the dozens of snowballs we had prepared before it was time to go home.
