Hello one and hello all, it appears that it’s no longer fall! Welcome back to another wonderful winter day in the life of a Knee High Naturalist.
After arriving to a winter wonderland today, all of our friends began silly snow play. Trees were being shook and snow began to fall, soon it looked like we were wearing white shawls! Instead of reading a book, we took a look and read the snow to see what critters were moving and where they might go. We discovered rabbit tracks that led into a log where he might have kept his snacks! After snow butterflies were made and all visited the snow treat buffet, we began our trek to the pavilion to start our day. As we walked we waddled, some friends toppled, giggles filled the air and snow filled our hair!
Too excited to read, everyone so excited to eat, we quickly washed our hands and began to feast. Chit chat filled the air as friends caught up with one another, stories were shared and we rejoiced at being back together in the crisp winter air. It wasn’t long before snacks disappeared and buddies were reared, we were drawn to the snow and couldn’t resist flying out of the pavilion like crows. Snow castles were built, snow hills were climbed, we all had such a wonderful time! Snow butterflies seemed to flutter as we spread our arms wide, laying in the snow thinking how glad we were to be outside. With mitten checks done and snacks packed away, we lined up quickly and let Ms. Miranda lead the way.
We began our Friendsgiving Hike with a bag of old pumpkins and gourds in tow, Ms. Aspen passed them out so we could throw them in the snow. Were we littering? No, no! We gifted our forest friends with their own little feasts, we will check on them next week to see if they’ve been eaten by little beasts! We ducked under pine limbs, heavy with snow, creeping through the pine forest and taking cover from wind that began to blow. As trees and branches were bumped, the trees dumped white, cold clumps on our heads and we jumped! We hiked like turtles today, we couldn’t resist scooping up snow to munch on along the way! Blocks of snow were cradled in our arms, too precious to drop or to be harmed. We finally made our way out to the Nature Playscape field, we discovered the snow was so deep and so fresh we couldn’t contain our squeals!
More snow butterflies were made while some friends laid in the snow and others began to play. We heard the sleds calling our names, so we left our games and headed to the shed. There we gathered our tools that would help us zip down the slope, sledding was more fun than we could’ve hoped. Screams of glee echoed through the park as Knee High Naturalists flew down the hill, showing off their super sledding skills! Some friends got cold and wanted to color, so we headed to the pavilion where we took warm cover. Snowmen came to life and snowflakes looked so real they could almost take flight. It wasn’t long before we were all together again, finishing up our snacks and enjoying the Zen. A hand warmer was passed around, it felt like the warmest thing in town! Soon it was time to go, we bundled back up to wait for our families while we played in the snow. Excited to see each other again next week, we parted with well wishes and promises to play again soon.
Thank you all for another amazing and wonderful winter day in the life of your Knee High Naturalists! Thankfully, we have TWO more weeks of spending time together, next week will not be our last session together for the year! We look forward to seeing you all next week for more winter festivities!
