More about Spencer:

A proud Traverse City native (and avid Upper Peninsula visitor), Spencer’s deep connection to Michigan’s natural beauty began at a young age, growing up surrounded by the woods and landscapes that would shape his lifelong passion for wildlife and conservation. From the trails of Traverse City to the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula, Spencer’s love for the outdoors has always been a driving force in his life.

Originally, Spencer pursued a path in veterinary medicine, even gaining hands-on experience working at a local veterinary office. However, his desire to focus more on wildlife conservation led him to shift his academic focus to zoology. This transition allowed him to combine his love for animals with his commitment to preserving the natural world.

Spencer’s professional experience includes the Appalachian Mountain Club, where he worked on trail maintenance for the Appalachian Trail in the White Mountains. His work there gave him important skills in land stewardship and deepened his understanding of the delicate balance between conservation efforts and the recreational use of our natural spaces. As a Conservation Steward at GTCD, Spencer hopes his work is not only a valuable source of environmental education for the community but an example of good stewardship as well.

Outside of his professional work, Spencer is a passionate reader, hiker, and thrifter who finds peace in nature and quiet moments. While he enjoys exploring the beauty of Michigan’s landscapes, he’s also a firm believer in the importance of taking time to unwind and embrace the occasional moment of stillness.
