Nick joins our team as GTCD's new Produce Safety Technician! He has a deep connection to food and the people who dedicate their lives to its production and stewardship. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to being a resource and supporter of our vital agricultural community throughout the Northern Lower Peninsula of our state and is excited to join the team at Grand Traverse Conservation District to continue that path.
Nick brings a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Iowa State University and more than five years of experience in viticulture and winemaking, working mostly in Leelanau County, a bit in Iowa, and as far as New Zealand. Additionally, he has spent parts of his working life engaged in a handful of farms throughout the Midwest, learning about vegetable production and animal husbandry. These experiences are vital to Nick’s understanding of the unique structures of operation and challenges that each farm in our community faces in the continually changing human and natural environment.
Most importantly, he prides himself on his ability to connect with others authentically and strives to see everyone as an entity in themselves, beyond just their occupation. Through this work, he hopes to develop a stronger and more resilient agricultural and wider community for the benefit of us all and generations to come.
