MSU SciFest BioBlitz at the Natural Education Reserve

  • Grand Traverse Conservation District 1450 Cass Road Traverse City, MI, 49685 United States (map)

Description: The Grand Traverse Conservation District & MSU Science Festival invite our community to participate in the 2022 BioBlitz by observing the world around us during the month of April. Let's work together to celebrate science, collect observations, and contribute to scientific research! With the iNaturalist app, you just take a picture of any living organism (animals, plants, fungi, insects, and more) and the community will help identify which species it is. You can participate by exploring the nature and wildlife at the Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve posting your observations to iNaturalist. Any observation you make will count during our event.

A BioBlitz is a collaborative effort to document species within a given location over a certain period of time. A BioBlitz is a great opportunity to encourage people to go outside and become more familiar with the living organisms around them. Through identifications, with the help of iNaturalist, we hope participants gain a greater appreciation for biodiversity and the natural world around them, while contributing to scientific research.

There will be an introductory webinar on what a BioBlitz is and all the participating host sites on Tuesday, April 5th from noon to 1 pm via zoom: click here for more information. A closing webinar will take place on Tuesday, April 26th from noon to 1 pm to cover some of the highlight from each site. Click here for more information.
