Jan Engle

Jan grew up in a rural part of Western New York in a family of educators. She attended Michigan State University, where she met her husband, Ken. Since marrying in 1970, they have lived on their farm in Acme Township. They have two grown children.

After marrying, Jan taught Kindergarten for Kalkaska, and then Elk Rapids Public Schools, retiring in 2008.

Their farm has seen changes, and currently she and Ken produce tart cherries, apples, wine grapes, and cider apples. Both participate in the labor and management of the vineyard and orchards. Most of their farm is protected by conservation easements. Their farm has been MAEAP verified since 2005.
