Planting Seedlings on the Banks of the Boardman River

Join District staff in restoring the recently exposed bottomlands of the former Sabin Pond impoundment. Small, native bareroot trees and shrubs will be hand-planted along the banks of the Boardman River to help improve water quality and wildlife habitat. Please bring sturdy footwear, work gloves and a spare shovel. A limited amount of extra shovels will be available, along with light snacks and water. Peepers Program!

The Peepers program is specifically developed for children ages 3-5. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of each session. These 90-minute nature programs include stories, crafts, music, and discovery activities. Each program ends with an outside portion that will vary between a short exploratory hike, a game, or engaging play (i.e. sand table/water table, digging, etc.) to bring the lesson to life.

Knee-High Naturalists

Knee-High Naturalists is a nature-based preschool program for potty-trained 3-5 year-olds unaccompanied by a parent/guardian (drop off). It meets once a week on Thursday from 9:00am-12:00pm, for 14 weeks, starting this spring. Many of the children who come attend other preschool programs on the other weekdays. We want to facilitate their natural curiosity and joy in the world around them and help them to establish a sense of ownership of the nature center. Children in the program have the freedom to play and interact with their environment, learning to appreciate the variety and scope of the natural world.

Outdoor environments are a great way to engage all of your early learners developing senses, and give kids a bit of exercise, too! Join us every Friday, September 13-November 1 as we come together for a mix of guided and self-guided outdoor activities that allow young explorers and their grown-ups to explore, engage with, and experience the outdoors. Part of programs take place outdoors rain or shine–please dress for the weather.

The Acorn Adventurers program is specifically developed for children under the age of 4. All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of each session.
