Putting the fun back in fundraising, SwingShift and the Stars Dance-off for Charity provides unequalled philanthropic opportunity by creating a partnership between local charities and the community through high quality entertainment and friendly competition.
The Grand Traverse Conservation District is honored to be the first-ever environmental organization selected to participate in and benefit from the SwingShift and the Stars dancing competition.
Our challenge: to raise $50,000 in donations through this fun event which runs until December 16, 2011.
*UPDATE: We did it!! Thanks to the amazing dance skills of Rich Budek and Kathy Lauterbach – and the generous support of our friends, we were able to exceed our SwingShift and the Stars fundraising goal of $50,000! We found out Friday night that we raised $55,000 through the SwingShift and the Stars Dance-off! Thank you so much to all of our supporters!
You can view more photos of the dance events on the GTCD Flickr page.
A St. Mary’s College/Notre Dame graduate, Kathy joined the original Traverse City State Bank in 1976. In 1988 she became the Chairman of the Board of Montgomery Elevator Company in IL. She and her husband, Denny, purchased Floor Covering Brokers in 2003. A mother of two with a flair for creating impishly classical spaces, Kathy strongly believes in the GTCD. It is a charity for “EVERYMAN”. The work of the GTCD makes the UP NORTH we all know and love, survive and thrive. She says “Our world needs 3-dimensional people; people with the capacity for logical, well-developed thought patterns. Exploring nature and managing it for the benefit of all is key in this process.”
Rich Budek
Rich, the GTCD dance instructor, is a store manager at the area’s McLain Cycle and Fitness. In addition to his love for outdoor recreation, including biking, rollerblading and rowing, Rich also enjoys dancing and instructing dance. He has been working as a dance instructor at the Dance Center for three years, and his passion for dance is contagious. Rich is looking forward to working with SwingShift and the Stars to raise funds for the GTCD while doing what he loves best, dancing.
