November 20: GTSI Aquaponics workshop makes a splash!

On November 20, the Grand Traverse Stewardship Initiative (GTSI) hosted an Aquaponics workshop in collaboration with SEEDS.  Aquaponics systems combine fish rearing with plant raising in a closed system, where the fish waste provides nutrients for the plants, and the plants filter the water for a clean return to the fish. Curriculum connections were shared and aligned to standards. Many schools took their aquaponics systems back to their schools to work directly with students!

Participants mix up during the aquaponics ice breaker.
