Jessica Beachy joined the GTCD in May 2011 as the Invasive Species Network (ISN) intern and is focusing on surveying and mapping invasive plant species on GTCD parklands. She recently finished a doctorate in forest science from Michigan Tech specializing in invasive insect ecology. She also holds a master of science in entomology from Virginia Tech and a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State in environmental science. Her background includes two years spent in Bulgaria as a Peace Corps volunteer working on environmental education projects and she has studied environmental issues in Central America. She made Traverse City her permanent residence in 2010 and currently teaches biology at Northwestern Michigan College during the school year.
