About Us

GTCD

Our Mission:
“The Grand Traverse Conservation District inspires exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world.”

Our Vision:
The Grand Traverse Conservation District is the leader in providing responsive services to gain a commitment from the diverse communities it serves to sustain, improve and preserve the quality of our natural environment.

The GTCD is a local environmental organization that connects the community to nature through education and conservation. We believe the more someone explores nature, the more they will appreciate it and ultimately we help foster that appreciation into active conservation and stewardship.

We built and are based out of the Boardman River Nature Center (BRNC) where a lot of our education work takes place. We have a continuum of environmental education programs designed for schools, kids, adults and families. Our Conservation work is focused on keeping our natural resources healthy and empowering the community to become active environmental stewards themselves.

Both areas are equally important to creating better stewards of our natural world: The more a person learns about nature, the more they will want to conserve it. And the more they actively conserve it, the more they will want to learn about it. Both ways lead to that person becoming a better steward of our natural world, which is ultimately our goal.
